
Why we stopped making “disposable” bathroom mirrors
Anyone who’s ever stepped out of a hot shower only to be met by a completely fogged-up mirror knows the struggle. You end up wiping it with a towel and leaving streaks everywhere. Infrared heaters fix this, but there’s a hidden problem most companies ignore. The heat works great on day one. But what happens in year five when a heating element finally gives out? Usually, that’s when the nightmare starts. Most mirror heaters are built as one big, permanent piece. If one tiny section fails, you’re stuck ripping the entire mirror off the wall. It’s a mess, it’s expensive, and there’s always that nagging fear you’ll crack the glass while trying to pry the whole thing loose. We decided that was stupid. So, we changed how we build them. Instead of one giant unit, we use a modular setup. We basically separated the heating parts from the main frame. Now, if something breaks, you don’t need a renovation crew. You just pull out the dead module and pop in a new one. No dismantling the wall mounts, no stress. Just a quick swap. Here’s the technical side of it, but kept simple: we use short-wave infrared emitters. They hit the glass fast, clearing the fog in seconds without cooking the backing of the mirror. We’ve spent a lot of time making sure the heat is spread evenly, too. Nobody wants “hot spots” that melt the glue and make the mirror warp. Of course, hitting that high heat quickly puts a lot of pressure on the wiring. Metal expands and shrinks every time the heater kicks on. To stop the connectors from wearing out, we used reinforced terminals. They’re built to take the beating. When it comes to actually fixing it, it’s a breeze. You disconnect the lead, slide the old element out, and wire up the new one. It takes about ten minutes. We even standardized the size of the modules, so you can keep a couple of spares on a shelf. You don’t have to wait weeks for a custom order from a factory halfway across the world. It turns the mirror from something you throw away when it breaks into a piece of equipment you actually own and maintain.
