There is nothing more annoying than stepping out of a hot shower and having to wipe a circle into a foggy mirror just to see your face. It’s a clunky, outdated experience. That’s why we use infrared (IR) heaters. They don’t just warm up the room; they target the glass itself to keep things crystal clear. But the real magic happens when you stop flipping a switch and let your house do the thinking for you. Why it feels different Most heaters try to warm up the air around them, which takes forever. We use short-wave IR technology instead. Think of it like the sun hitting your skin on a cold day—you feel that warmth instantly. Because we use high-density quartz elements, there’s no “waiting period.” The second it kicks on, the heat is there. No lag, no waiting for a foil pad to slowly warm up. Just instant clarity. Making it “Smart” The goal here is to make the heater invisible. You shouldn’t have to think about it. We hook these up to a smart relay or a Zigbee/Matter controller so the mirror just knows when to be ready. We make sure the hardware can handle the initial power surge, too, so you aren’t accidentally tripping your breakers in the middle of the night. Usually, we set it up in one of two ways: *The Wake-up Call: It fires up five minutes before your alarm goes off. By the time you brush your teeth, the mirror is already warm. *The Motion Trigger: A simple sensor or your smart shower valve tells the heater, “Hey, someone’s in here,” and it kicks in automatically. A few things to watch out for Here’s the thing: IR heaters put out a lot of concentrated heat. If you put a massive, high-wattage heater on a tiny mirror, you’re asking for trouble. Too much heat can stress the glass or melt the adhesive holding everything together. It’s all about balance. You want enough power to clear the fog, but not so much that you’re baking the mirror. To play it safe, we always add a thermal cutoff switch. It’s a simple safety net—if the smart relay glitches and stays “on,” the switch kills the power before things get too hot. Plus, since it’s all connected to your hub, you can keep an eye on the power usage and set a temperature ceiling. You get a clear mirror without burning through electricity for no reason.
